Fr Linus F. Clovis was born in St. Lucia, Caribbean, and is the eldest of the five sons of Henry and Audrey Clovis.  In 1960, he joined his family in the United Kingdom where he acquired a PhD in Mathematics from University of London, following which he went to study for the priesthood at the Angelicum University in Rome.  Having obtained a Bachelor’s degree in theology and a Diploma in Latin Literature, he was ordained priest by Pope St John Paul II in 1983.

Returning to St Lucia, he was a teacher and chaplain at St. Mary’s College, a Catholic school for boys. He, subsequently, went on to study for a Licentiate (Master’s degree) in Canon Law in Rome and a Diploma in Education from UWI.   Fr. Clovis, with education as his pastoral activity, taught for some years at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College before being appointed Dean of the Division of Arts, Science and General Studies.  From there, he became principal of St Mary’s College, until 2005, when he retired from teaching.

In 2004, Fr Clovis led the resistance to the legalisation of abortion in St Lucia, even threatening to deny Holy Communion to the Head of State should she present herself to him.  She took the threat very seriously and did not present herself but the incident did not endear him to either the State or his archbishop.

Consequently, Fr. Clovis left St Lucia to travel internationally lecturing, speaking and preaching mainly on pro-life/ pro-family issues.  With the appointment of a new archbishop, he was appointed parish priest of Laborie before being moved to the Archdiocesan Chancery to work as the Director of the Secretariat for Family and Life in St Lucia.  He is also the Spiritual Director for the Legion of Mary in St Lucia.

Fr. Clovis has now dedicated his life to promoting the Gospel of Life and is currently the Spiritual Director and Chairman of Family Life International, New Zealand, the Spiritual Advisor for the Board of Population Research Institute, USA, the Spiritual Director for Human Life International, UK, and the Chair and Spiritual Director of Carifam, St. Lucia.

He has written a number of articles and a book “A Biblical Search for the Church Christ Founded”.  He has a notable collection of audio talks and videos on subjects ranging through theology, catechetics, history, pro-life issues, family life issues, spirituality, Mariology, hagiography.  Many of his talks, including “The Francis Effect”, can be found on Utube and on the website www.familyandlife.co.uk

Fr Clovis has, also, led international pilgrimages of groups up to 150 persons to Marian shrines in France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Austria, Ireland, Belgium, Czech Republic, Poland, Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Mexico, Korea, Greece.
